Tropic Art features Koi and tropical art motifs on one of a kind functional pieces. Using floor cloths, ceramics, tile, and more. You can find out more about each of these subjects by visiting the corresponding pages linked above.
The artist is Nancy Turner from Portland, OR. She and her husband, Bruce, have been Koi keepers for over five years and are members of the Northwest Koi and Goldfish Club. Nancy was featured in the May/June 1997 issue of Koi USA, an international Koi magazine. Nancy has also volunteered her work as awards and auction items for the club's annual fundraisers. Nancy hopes that by looking at her pieces on this site you may see something you like or they might give you some ideas of your own. She is more than happy to work with you if you do have your own ideas or you can choose one featured on this site. If something has sold, she is very willing to make another if at all possible. Obviously there will be small differences if the piece has to be duplicated and will not look exactly like the ones shown on this website.
Floor Cloths: Now there is art for your floor! Beautifully painted canvas area carpets which in colonial times were made from sails to cover dirt floors. Today they are made from heavy canvas, painted then sealed which creates a beautiful, as well as, durable area carpet. They don’t do well on soft surfaces such as carpet so they must be placed on hard surfaces such as wood, tile, linoleum etc. They wipe clean with a damp rag and take very little care. They do great and add a spark of color and design in front of the kitchen sink, bathroom sink or tub/shower. They can be made to match your color scheme or choose one of mine. They are a beautiful addition to your home or office. See examples of my Floorcloths.
Ceramics: These designs are painted with Koi, and tropical designs mostly on hand poured earthenware pieces. All of my pieces are hand poured by a local artist in Hillsboro, named Alden Potter. He pours really great solid, heavy earthenware pieces and porcelain. Now days, it is hard to find such quality in ceramic greenware or bisque pieces anywhere. For further information about Alden please send me an email and I can answer your questions about him or send you his information. On the ceramics page you can find plates, platters and other items which provide function and beauty as well. See some of my examples just click here on Ceramics.
Tile: Ceramic tiles can be painted in an unlimited array of color schemes, styles and for many different applications. There are your everyday plain whites or field tile for your applications that can be painted to add maybe a mural, large or small, or deco tiles, that add just a tile here and there for a splash of color design and interest to what would normally be a plain application, even beautifully painted tile with Koi placed in a windowsill instead of your regular installation of wood. How about coaster sets with Koi or what ever! We are more than happy to work with you or your designer to come up with a design that will work great for you. See my examples of Tile.
Misc.: This page features items that do not fit into the other page's categories. Painted clothing and accessories, quilts, pillows, wallets etc. Take a look at the Misc. Gallery
